T. gondii tachyzoites were added to glass coverslips precoated with bovine
serum albumin and warmed on the microscope stage to 35oC. The three different
types of tachyzoite motility as defined by Hakaanson, Sibley and colleagues
(Mol Biol Cell 10: 3539), i.e., circular gliding, helical gliding and twirling,
were visualized using Nomarski optics and captured using a Dage VE1000SIT camera
mounted on a Nikon Eclipse E400 microscope. The sequence is played back in real
time; parasites are ~7um long.
